4) EXCELLENCE OF THE RACE: 2-7-10

EXCERPT OF FACING THE GIANTS MOVIE
In this family based movie the Shiloh Eagles football team has not had a winning season in six years. As the new season begins, the Eagles lose the first three games due to their half-heartedness and apathy. Coach Grant Taylor challenges the players to give God their best . . . on and off the field.

Defensive captain Brock Kelly, the Eagles most influential leader, expresses a defeatist attitude. Coach Grant Taylor challenges Brock to do the Death crawl drill, and to give his very best. Brock is blindfolded and demonstrates wholeheartedness for the first time. He gives us the perfect picture of achieving excellence in our lives.
1) EXCELLENCE OF THE HEART
Ø  Psalm 119:32 I WILL RUN the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt ENLARGE MY HEART.
Ø  Matthew 22:35-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God, with ALL THY HEART, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Ø  (1) "ALL THY HEART"--INTELLIGENT LOVE
§  Proverbs 23:7 says, "As he [man] thinketh in his heart, so is he."
Ø  (2) "ALL THY SOUL"--EMOTIONAL LOVE
§  Matthew seems to have the word soul to refer to emotions. In Matthew 26:38 Jesus says, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful."
Ø  (3) ALL THY MIND”--WILLING LOVE
§  The Lord replaced the word MIGHT in Deuteronomy 6:5 with the word MIND. The Greek word translated "might" is broad word that has to do with the intention and will of a man.
§  Philippians 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5. LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU, which was also in Christ Jesus:
2) EXCELLENCE OF DEEDS
Ø  Exodus 36:1 Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded.
Ø  Exodus 35:35 He has filled them with skill to do all manner of work of the ENGRAVER and the DESIGNER and the TAPESTRY MAKER, in blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen, and of the WEAVER—those who do every work and those who design artistic works. (NKJV)
o   2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Ø  1 KINGS 10:4-6 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, 5the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her. 6Then she said to the king: “It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 7However I did not believe the words until I came and saw with my own eyes; and indeed the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame of which I heard.
o   How Solomon’s ushers dressed mattered
o   How the greeters greeted mattered
o   How the entryway was organized mattered
To the Queen of Sheba this was all evidence of God at work in Solomon’s temple
3) EXCELLENCE TAKES TIME
Ø  Exodus 23:25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. 26There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil. 27I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee. 28And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. 29I WILL NOT DRIVE THEM OUT FROM BEFORE THEE IN ONE YEAR; LEST THE LAND BECOME DESOLATE, AND THE BEAST OF THE FIELD MULTIPLY AGAINST THEE. 30By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.
Ø  Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
